About Microchips:

A microchip is a form of permanent identification (as small as a grain of rice) that is inserted into the scruff of the animal’s neck. The procedure is as simple as a routine vaccination. In 1998, Foothills Animal Shelter, along with many other area shelters, began scanning all incoming animals for microchips. When a lost or stray animal comes into the Shelter, we digitally scan each incoming animal for a microchip. If detected, the microchip will lead us to the owner’s information.

A microchip is the perfect identification device because it cannot be lost or easily removed. Foothills Animal Shelter places microchips in all of our adopted dogs and cats.

Along with a collar bearing current rabies and dog license, a microchip is a fantastic tool to ensure your animal will be returned to you! Please contact us for more information regarding the microchipping process.
